→ Plant Scherer Tour – At the request of councilmembers Ready and Baker, MEAG has set up a tour of Plant Scherer for us. Jody and I will join the tour on Tuesday, August 23rd. We’ll leave at 7:45 AM and get back about 2:30 PM. If you would like to join us, let me know by Wednesday; we can take another car. Plant Scherer is the largest coal and the largest electric plant in the country.
We also have a tour set up for Plant Vogtle on Wednesday, January 25, 2017. We’ll check later to see if you are interested in joining that tour. We are not participating in the new Vogtle units 3 & 4, but Oxford owns a small portion of units 1 & 2.
→ Merryvale Assisted Living – Merryvale Assisted Living home is on Highway 142 just north of Oxford. The post office lists their address as Oxford, GA. The residents came by city hall this week to express their appreciation to our police department. Chief Harvey joined them on their bus for the official “presentation of the cookies!”
→ GMA Member Services Advisory Council – I have been asked to continue to serve on the GMA Member Services Advisory Council. We meet about three times a year and work to improve the services GMA provides to its member cities.
→ Oxford Lions Club – I spoke at the Oxford Lions Club meeting on Thursday, August 04, 2016.
→ SPLOST 2017 – On Tuesday, August 2nd, the Board of Commissioners issued the attached timeline for the next SPLOST referendum. It’s long and involved but if you scroll down to the last page you will see that the meeting with municipal officials to discuss the contents of the referendum is planned for no later than November 6, 2016.
→ Oxford College Underground Electric Project – Work is continuing on the project. The rolls of conduit have been installed. Here is a picture of the contractor preparing the pit next to the new college dining hall on Wesley for the installation next week of a vault that will contain a transformer and connect much of the conduit and wires.
→ Police Department – July was the first month of the fiscal year, so we have only one graph this month.
