From Bob Schwartz, City Manager
→ Oxford Community College Lectures – We had the first lecture last Tuesday presented by Dr.
Frosso Seitaridou, Assistant Professor of Physics, Oxford College. She explained the Higgs particle
to an audience of about 30. Here’s the key slide. I think I understood it during the lecture, but now
I’m not so sure.
Next Tuesday, October 29 at 4 PM, Dr. Monica Ali, associate professor of chemistry emerita, will
present: “The Crystal Cathedral: Reflections on a Modern Ministry.” Everyone is invited.
→ City Council Retreat – We will meet in the Oxford College Library (room 230 on the second floor)
beginning at 8:30AM Thursday. Rumor is that the famous Oxford College cinnamon rolls will make an
appearance early. We have attached a map showing the visitor parking we will use. We will walk across
the Quad to the Hoke O’Kelley Library.
→ Leaf Vacuum– On Tuesday, we had a minor incident with the leaf vacuum. The temporary worker backing
it up on Wentworth Drive jackknifed the trailer. The leaf vacuum was not damaged, but the hitch on the truck
and on the trailer were both slightly bent. We are making the repairs and it will be back in service soon.
→ GMA Meetings – I will be in Macon Monday morning for a meeting of the GMA member services task
force. Tuesday evening is the GMA district five meeting in Commerce. So far, I will be the only representative
from Oxford, so let me know if you’d like to attend.
