Weekly Update 5/31/2013

From Bob Schwartz, City Manager

Whatcoat Street Willow Oaks Pruning – You need to know we issued a purchase order

Wednesday (May 29) to Arbor Equity, Covington, for work on the willow oaks on Whatcoat

Street. Arbor Equity is one of the firms that Connie Head, the city arborist, has recommended.

Porterdale has used Arbor Equity recently and has been very satisfied. The work will include:

“Tree Pruning – 14 willow oaks on Whatcoat Street; perform crown cleaning of deadwood 2”

and larger. Also crown raise 12’ to 14’ above road and sidewalk.” Jody Reid worked to get

us two bids: Arbor Equity for $1,823 and Bartlett Tree Experts, Tucker for $6,545. The city

money will go much further with Arbor Equity so we selected them. I’m not sure when the work

will be done, but we’ll let you know if we get a heads up.

→ Oxford Historic District –As Hoyt Oliver said during the work session, we are an Historic

District on the National Register. I’ve attached a copy of the map from the 1975 application(here).

I have a copy of the full 8.7 MB file. Let me know if you would like an email or a paper copy

    of the full submittal.

Police Officers Weapons Qualifications– Our police officers went to the range Friday and

qualified on their pistols and the shotgun. This is an annual requirement of the POST certification

    program.

→ Lift Station backup generator –Our lift station at Victoria Station is powered by Georgia Power.

However, to ensure 24 hour service no matter what, it has a backup generator. It’s a large lift

station and a large generator. The generator has failed and will require $2,620 to repair. Jody

and I have issued the purchase order and the work will be done soon.
