Chief Mark Anglin is a second-generation police officer following in the footsteps of his father, uncles, cousin, brothers, and sisters. Chief Anglin worked with DeKalb County Police Department at times alongside his father. He began his career serving as a patrol officer handling 911 calls. He worked in DeKalb’s Major Felony Unit as a Homicide Detective for many years and a short time in the Narcotics Unit assigned to the FBI Task Force. He was selected to work in the department’s Training Division as a Police Recruit Instructor and holds instructor certifications in general instruction, firearms, defensive tactics, emergency vehicle operations, Active Shooter instructor with the ALERRT program, and most recently became a Georgia Resiliency Master Instructor. After serving as a police officer, Anglin was asked to work in the Medical Examiner’s Office as a death investigator where he was promoted to Chief Investigator, overseeing the daily operations of the Medical Examiner’s law enforcement division. Anglin retired after 30 years of service to DeKalb County and has worked as instructor with the State of Georgia at the Public Safety Training Center, and as an Investigator with the Newton County District Attorney’s Office as an investigator. He also worked as an adjunct law enforcement instructor with the GA Piedmont Technical College from its inception until 2020. Anglin holds a Master of Science Degree in criminal justice from Troy University, a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice with a minor in Leadership, also from Troy, and studied under the Carl Vinson Institute for Leadership through UGA. He enjoys time with his family and bike riding throughout Newton County and the state. Chief Anglin looks forward to moving the Oxford Police Department ahead to a better-trained department to serve and protect the citizens of Oxford.
