From Bob Schwartz, City Manager

Lineman Class – We have enrolled Dustin James in the Lineman Class with ECG (Electric Cities of Georgia). He recently successfully completed the “Rigging and Climbing Class”. There are a lot more classes to go, but he’s on the way.
Police DepartmentClick here to view certificates earned by Officer Jeff Novak. One enables him to operate the laser speed detector; the other is for the successful completion of continuing education in gang awareness.
Police Department – On Thursday afternoon, a man in a pickup truck ran into the back fender of Chief Harvey’s patrol car. There were no injuries but the vehicle is out of service and the Chief is using the backup patrol car. Chief Harvey called the Georgia State Patrol to investigate the accident. The other driver was at fault and Chief Harvey has been in contact with the insurance company covering the pickup truck.
GMA District Meeting – I attended the GMA District Five meeting Thursday evening in Commerce. We discussed the bills passed during the just completed legislative session. Click here for a summary GMA has prepared. If you get a chance this weekend, please read it over. It has 2 ½ pages of bills that passed along with 1 ½ pages of bills that did not pass but that might be back. GMA also has included a two page briefing on the new gun legislation which made some major changes.
