From Bob Schwartz, City Manager
→ Power Outage – The power outage Sunday afternoon was caused by a tree knocking down a power pole at the corner of Emory Street and Oxford North Road. The pole not only had our electric lines along with telephone and cable, but since it is close to the City of Covington’s electric service area, it also had Covington electric lines. Oxford and Covington both responded and restored service with the help of the Oxford Police Department providing traffic control. It was a team effort. We were able to restore power to almost everyone while repairs were going on because of the system of switches we have installed over the years.
→ Workers’ Compensation – As part of our workers’ compensation insurance coverage with the Georgia Municipal Association sponsored GIRMA, they offer training and updates from time to time. Lauran attended the most recent update on the Workers’ Compensation program in Macon recently and recieved a certificate of training. It’s important to keep up with changes in the law and with our carrier’s reporting procedures.
